The construction of crawlspaces has gone through an evolution of building science that turns the conventional practice on its head. Venting a crawlspace can actually do more harm than good. It can compromise the durability of the house and create a health hazard for the occupants.

SO WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH CURRENT CRAWLSPACE DESIGNS?

Most of today’s newer houses are waterproofed on the outside during construction.  When rain water or water from your sprinkler system hits the exposed block or brick wall it is hitting the wall above the waterproofing and being absorbed into the wall.  Some of the water will go into the exterior drainage system and some will go through the wall into the crawlspace.  Current sealed crawlspace designs have the polly vapor barrier attached directly to the block wall or have a non permeable insulation attached directly to the wall.  When the sun hits the wall vapor pressure builds up in the wall and forces moisture straight up to the ban sill.  The result is an expensive ban sill replacement in the future

WHAT MAKES YOU MICROCLIMATE CRAWLSPACE DESIGN BETTER THAN CONVENTIONAL DESIGNS?

Our design uses a combination of furring strips and radiant reflective insulation to create a microclimate between the foundation wall and the poly moisture barrier.  This design eliminates the condensation plane and allows the moisture to move freely within hat space without ever entering the crawlspace.
